The University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN) has approved a 60 percent increase in sundry charges for both fresh and returning students for the 2025/2026 academic session.

The decision comes after weeks of discussions between the University Management and the Student Union Government (SUG) and represents a compromise from the Council’s original proposal of a 100 percent hike.
The revised charges will apply to all students across faculties, with detailed breakdowns expected to be released soon.

The increment will be paid in two instalments over the two semesters, a measure aimed at easing the financial burden on parents and guardians.
Negotiations began in December 2025, with student leaders initially proposing a 30 percent increase, citing infrastructure needs and charges at comparable universities. The Council had gradually reduced its position from 100 percent to 90 percent before finally agreeing to a 60 percent hike.

The agreement also confirmed that accommodation fees for the 2025/2026 session will remain unchanged. Both the University and student representatives signed the formal resolution to ensure clarity and transparency in implementation.
The University said the arrangement reflects its commitment to student welfare, continuous dialogue with student bodies, and the ongoing development of the institution to meet academic and infrastructural demands.
