The African Democratic Congress has criticised President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for staying away from the 2026 Armed Forces Remembrance Day ceremony, saying his absence weakened a moment meant to honour fallen Nigerian soldiers.

The reaction came on Thursday as the country observed the annual event dedicated to remembering military personnel who died in service and standing with those still fighting and their families across the nation.
The opposition party said the ceremony holds deep national meaning, especially at a time when Nigerian troops are stretched across several regions battling insurgency, banditry, and violent crime.
