The Federal Government has granted Cosmopolitan University in Abuja a permanent operational licence following the successful completion of its three-year probationary period.
The National Universities Commission (NUC) Executive Secretary, Abdullahi Ribadu, disclosed this in a statement on Friday, urging the institution to sustain high academic standards.
Ribadu said the commission was satisfied with the university’s progress during the probationary period, which involved monitoring and assessment of its academic and administrative operations.
He explained that the NUC evaluated the institution’s processes, students and staff before deciding whether to grant it a permanent licence or withdraw its existing approval.
According to him, universities placed on probation must undergo the assessment process, after which those that meet the required standards receive full operational licences, while those that fail may not be approved to continue operating.
Ribadu noted that not all institutions assessed during the process passed the evaluation.
Cosmopolitan University was among 37 private universities licensed under the administration of former President Muhammadu Buhari.
