The Federal Government has signed a fresh agreement with the Academic Staff Union of Universities in a renewed effort to end recurring strikes in Nigeria’s public universities.

The agreement was unveiled in Abuja at the Tertiary Education Trust Fund headquarters, bringing together top government officials and ASUU leaders after months of negotiations.
The signing was led by the Minister of Education, Tunji Alausa, alongside the Minister of State for Education, Suwaiba Sa’id Ahmad, representing the federal government at the event.

The deal targets long-standing disputes over lecturers’ welfare, funding of universities, and conditions of service, issues that have often forced academic staff to down tools and disrupt the academic calendar.
The government says the new agreement is expected to restore stability in public universities, keep students in school, and reduce the cycle of industrial actions that has affected learning across the country.
