The Federal Government on Tuesday said 38 students of Ambrose Alli University Ekpoma arrested during a recent protest in Edo State will soon regain their freedom.

The update came from the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Students Engagement, Asefon Sunday Dayo, who spoke in Abuja while addressing concerns over the detention of students linked to the Ekpoma protest.
The students were picked up after joining a peaceful demonstration against rising kidnapping and insecurity affecting university students and nearby communities, a situation that had sparked public concern.

According to the presidential aide, the planned release followed behind-the-scenes engagements involving Edo State Governor Monday Okpebholo, Education Minister Tunji Alausa, Youth Development Minister Ayo Olawande, the Edo State Commissioner for Education, AAU student leaders, and other stakeholders.
The intervention, he said, relied on dialogue and due process, with authorities agreeing that the matter should be resolved without further tension, as efforts continue to protect student welfare and maintain calm in the state.
