Fayose Sides With Wike In Rivers Power Clash

Former Ekiti State governor Ayo Fayose has openly backed FCT Minister Nyesom Wike in the political dispute rocking Rivers State, saying Governor Siminalayi Fubara rose to power through Wike’s support.

Fayose spoke during a television interview on Tuesday, where he addressed the growing rift between both men and questioned why Fubara is challenging Wike’s influence in the state’s political structure.
He said Fubara was not a known political figure before becoming governor and argued that political leadership comes with respect for those who paved the way. According to him, holding office does not automatically make one the ultimate authority if others played a key role in securing that position.

Fayose warned that confronting a political benefactor in public often ends badly, adding that many allies pushing Fubara to resist Wike would disappear if trouble deepens. He also said the emergency rule in Rivers State spared the governor from impeachment and possible political extinction.
He advised Fubara to seek reconciliation rather than escalation, insisting that peace with Wike remains the safest path forward for stability in Rivers politics and the governor’s own future.
