Lagos Launches Probe Into Death Of Adichie Son

The Lagos State Government has ordered a full investigation into claims of medical negligence linked to the death of Nkanu Nnamdi, the 21-month-old son of Nigerian writer Chimamanda Adichie.

The incident happened at a private hospital in Lagos and has drawn wide public attention.
The case came to light after the author said her son died following treatment for what began as a mild illness that later became severe.

She blamed the outcome on negligence during medical care, raising concerns about how the child was handled at the facility.
The hospital involved, Euracare, said it has started its own internal review. It stated that the child arrived in a critical condition after treatment at two other hospitals and received care based on accepted medical standards, but passed away less than a day after admission.

Following the public concern, the state government said it was formally informed of the incident and described the loss as tragic. The governor directed the Health Facility Monitoring and Accreditation Agency to begin an independent and transparent investigation into what happened.
Officials confirmed that the agency has visited the hospital and is reviewing records and procedures, working with other medical regulators where needed. The government said findings will be made public and warned that anyone found guilty of negligence or misconduct will face sanctions under the law.
