Leaders of the All Progressives Congress have asked President Bola Tinubu to remove the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, over actions they describe as hostile to the ruling party and harmful to national unity.

The demand was made by a coalition of APC figures who say Wike’s conduct is putting the party at risk in Rivers State.
The call was made in a memo sent to the President through the APC National Chairman, Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda.

The document was submitted on the same day party loyalists planned a rally at the APC National Secretariat in Abuja to press home their concerns.
The group said the issue stems from Wike’s public attacks on APC leaders despite serving in an APC-led government. They pointed to comments credited to him during a visit to Rivers State in early January, where he reportedly criticised the party’s national secretary and warned against interference in the state’s politics.

They also accused the minister of working against the APC by openly ridiculing Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara and questioning his emergence. According to them, Wike’s frequent tours across the state are meant to stir division and weaken the party’s standing ahead of the 2027 elections.
Beyond party politics, the APC leaders warned that Wike’s remarks on control and access to Rivers State could fuel tension and threaten peace in the Niger Delta. They urged President Tinubu to act swiftly, warning that protests would spread across the country if no action is taken.
