He revealed that he promised players and officials he would personally pay their unpaid match bonuses if the Federal Government fails to do so before Saturday’s quarter-final clash against Algeria.

Ndidi made the commitment on Thursday after growing concerns that unpaid bonuses could distract the squad. He said he has been urging the team to stay focused since the second match of the tournament and decided to act to protect their preparation and morale.
The issue surfaced after reports emerged that players and officials were unhappy over unpaid bonuses from the group stage and round of 16 matches. There were claims the situation could affect training and travel plans, raising tension in the camp ahead of the crucial knockout game.

In response, the Federal Government said steps were already being taken to resolve the matter. The Minister of State for Finance, Doris Uzoka-Anite, confirmed that group stage funds had been released and cleared required processes, with assurances that future payments would move faster.
Officials also explained that changes had been made to foreign exchange handling to avoid similar delays. With Ndidi’s pledge and the government’s response, the focus has now shifted back to football as the Super Eagles prepare for Algeria.
