The Peoples Democratic Party has announced plans to hold strategic talks with former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, ex–Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi, and other key political figures as it prepares for the 2027 general elections.

The move is part of efforts to reposition the party as Nigeria’s leading opposition force.
The disclosure was made on Wednesday by Emmanuel Ogidi, the PDP Chairman in the South-South, during a television appearance. He said the engagements are aimed at rebuilding trust and unity within the opposition space after internal setbacks.

The planned meetings will involve prominent figures who once played major roles within the PDP. Both Atiku and Obi were former flagbearers of the party and remain influential voices in national politics despite their current alignment with the African Democratic Congress.
According to Ogidi, the consultations have already begun, with party leaders reaching out to former presidents and respected political elders across the country. He said the visits are meant to show that the PDP is active, reorganising, and ready to re-engage Nigerians.

The outreach comes at a time when the party is dealing with deep internal divisions following its loss to the All Progressives Congress in the 2023 elections. Party leaders believe reconnecting with major opposition figures could strengthen its chances ahead of the next polls.
Earlier in the week, members of the PDP National Working Committee met with former President Goodluck Jonathan in Abuja. After the meeting, the party leadership said Jonathan reaffirmed his loyalty and commitment to supporting the PDP as it charts a new path toward 2027.
