Obi recalled that Nigeria once ranked ahead of India in key measures of prosperity, noting that official records showed Nigeria’s income per person was higher than India’s in earlier years before the gap widened sharply.
Recent projections show India’s economy growing steadily, with rising income levels, while Nigeria’s income per person is expected to fall, even after years of heavy borrowing and higher government earnings.

He said large revenues, subsidy savings and loans have not translated into better healthcare, education or reduced poverty, warning that everyday life is getting harder for citizens as prices rise and businesses shut down.
Obi called for a new leadership approach built on skill, care and integrity, urging leaders to cut waste, reduce governance costs and focus on sectors that directly improve lives so Nigeria can begin to close the gap with faster-growing countries.
