Tinubu Sends 21 Oil Board Nominees to Senate

President Bola Tinubu has forwarded the names of 21 nominees to the Senate for confirmation as board members of Nigeria’s key oil and gas regulatory bodies.

The nominations cover the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission and the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority, institutions responsible for overseeing activities across the petroleum sector.

Among those nominated is former senator Magnus Abe, who is proposed as chairman of the NUPRC board, alongside former regulators, technocrats, and industry professionals picked to serve as executive and non-executive commissioners.
The request was conveyed through two separate letters read in the Senate, following recent appointments of chief executive officers for both agencies.

The nominees were selected to fill roles spanning finance, exploration, production, gas infrastructure, corporate services, safety, and legal affairs, as part of efforts to strengthen regulation in the sector.
The president asked the Senate to treat the confirmation process urgently, stating that the new boards are expected to support stable regulation and improved performance in Nigeria’s oil and gas industry.
