The Federal Government has withdrawn the criminal defamation case filed against Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, who represents Kogi Central in the Senate.

The case was dropped through a notice of discontinuance filed on December 12, 2025, by the Office of the Attorney General of the Federation at the Federal High Court, ending one of the charges brought against the senator.

The matter followed petitions submitted by Senate President Godswill Akpabio and former Kogi State governor Yahaya Bello after Akpoti-Uduaghan made comments during a television programme where she alleged threats to her life involving both men.
The senator was later charged with criminal defamation and cyberbullying, even after she said her complaint to the Inspector General of Police over alleged threats was not acted upon. Several political figures were listed as witnesses during the case.
The withdrawal comes days after Akpabio publicly announced that he had instructed his lawyers to drop all defamation cases linked to him, following a personal decision he said was influenced by a church sermon.
Although one case has now been terminated, a second criminal case filed by the Federal Government against Akpoti-Uduaghan is still pending in court and is expected to come up soon, with indications it may also be withdrawn.
