Join ADC or Lose Obidient Tag Okonkwo Warns

Supporters of Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi, have been told to formally join the African Democratic Congress or risk losing their Obidient identity ahead of the 2027 elections.

The call came from ADC chieftain and lawyer, Kenneth Okonkwo, who spoke on Friday during a television interview where he addressed the future direction of Obi’s support base and opposition politics.

Okonkwo said Obi had now clearly asked his supporters to register with the ADC, making party membership the new test of loyalty. According to him, those who refuse to join can no longer claim the Obidient label.
He explained that allowing supporters to spread across different parties in the past weakened political strategy, adding that the ADC was building a disciplined and united opposition platform.

Okonkwo described the ADC as a democratic party with strong internal rules, noting that the South East had largely aligned with the party. He argued that politicians outside the ADC were indirectly helping the ruling party.
He also confirmed Obi’s membership of the ADC and said the party was open to all committed democrats, adding that he would support whoever emerges as the ADC presidential candidate once a decision is made for 2027.
