A fresh twist has emerged in the Rivers State political crisis as Federal Capital Territory Minister Nyesom Wike accused Governor Siminalayi Fubara of breaking a peace deal reached under President Bola Tinubu’s mediation.

Wike made the claim on Wednesday during a thank-you visit to Tai Local Government Area.
The agreement in question was brokered by President Tinubu in June 2025 at a closed-door meeting in Abuja, following months of political tension that led to emergency rule and the suspension of key state officials. Both Wike and Fubara had publicly pledged peace after the talks.

Wike now says the governor failed to keep to the terms of that understanding, describing the move as a breach of trust. He announced that he would soon disclose the full details of what was agreed before the president so Rivers people can know the truth.
The minister warned that politics in the state would no longer be business as usual, insisting that his supporters were ready to correct what he called a leadership error made in 2023. He added that political success in Rivers does not depend on money but on the people.

Wike also dismissed claims that access to large state funds would guarantee victory, saying his camp had defeated well-funded opponents in the past and would do so again if necessary. According to him, loyalty and trust matter more than financial power.
He thanked residents of Tai for supporting Tinubu during the last presidential election, noting that their backing had brought federal appointments, projects, and the establishment of the Federal University of Environment to the area.
