The Nigeria Labour Congress on Thursday urged Nigerians to reject any tax law that has been altered or falsified, saying citizens must not accept laws that did not pass through proper democratic process.

The labour union said its position follows growing controversy around newly gazetted tax laws, which some lawmakers and groups claim differ from versions approved by the National Assembly.
NLC warned that allowing distorted laws to stand would weaken democracy, erode trust in governance, and place unfair burdens on workers and ordinary Nigerians already facing economic hardship.

The congress said tax laws must reflect transparency, legislative approval, and public interest, adding that any secret changes after passage amount to an abuse of power.
It stressed that Nigerians have the right to resist policies that threaten livelihoods, insisting that taxation should be fair, lawful, and aimed at development rather than punishment.
The NLC called on relevant authorities to review the disputed laws openly, correct any irregularities, and ensure that only duly passed legislation is implemented across the country.
