Residents of Ayetoro Kiri in Kabba Bunu Local Government Area of Kogi State have fled their homes following a deadly attack on a church that led to the abduction of more than 20 worshippers.

The exodus began days after armed men invaded the First ECWA Church in the community on Sunday December 14 while a service was ongoing, forcing many residents to fear further attacks.

By Thursday morning December 18 the once busy town was almost empty as families moved to nearby towns and villages in search of safety, leaving houses locked and streets silent.

Locals said the decision to flee came after days of uncertainty and the absence of visible security presence, with many believing staying behind could make them the next targets.
Videos from the area showed deserted streets broken windows and vehicles carrying fleeing residents, painting a picture of a community abandoned to fear.
As the whereabouts of the abducted worshippers remain unknown, residents and rights groups are calling on security agencies to act fast to restore safety and stop Ayetoro Kiri from becoming another fully displaced town in Kogi State.
