An Assistant Commissioner of Police, Ogbon-Inu Taiwo Popoola, has died after collapsing during an official meeting at the Ebonyi State Police Command headquarters in Abakaliki.
The incident happened around 11am on Tuesday while senior officers were holding a management meeting at the command.
Popoola, who was the head of the State Intelligence Department, reportedly developed sudden breathing problems and began gasping for air in the middle of the meeting.
He was immediately rushed to the Police Medical Centre within the headquarters, where medical personnel tried to revive him.
Doctors later confirmed his death, with early medical findings pointing to cardiac arrest linked to hypertensive heart disease.
His body has been taken to the morgue at Alex Ekwueme Federal University Teaching Hospital, Abakaliki, while the Ebonyi State Police Command described him as a committed and professional officer who served with dedication.
