A major political shift unfolded on Wednesday as the senator representing Kaduna South, Sunday Katung, formally left the Peoples Democratic Party to join the All Progressives Congress.
The defection was announced during plenary at the Senate, where Senate President Godswill Akpabio read Katung’s letter informing the chamber of his decision to change party allegiance.
Katung said the move took effect from October 31, 2025, explaining that it came after careful thought shaped by changing political realities at both the national level and within his constituency.
He said he had stayed committed to the values the PDP once represented but concluded that the party no longer offered the right platform to pursue his goals of service and representation.
According to him, the APC now presents a clearer direction that aligns with his plans to support development, stability, and the welfare of the people he represents.
Katung added that his political future and responsibility to his constituents guided the decision, noting that remaining on a platform that limits ambition would not serve his people or his mandate.
