Workers under the Nigeria Labour Congress in Ebonyi State took to the streets of Abakaliki on Wednesday to protest the growing wave of insecurity across the country, saying lives are no longer safe.

The protest drew members of the NLC and its affiliate unions, who gathered early in the morning at Pa Ngele Orunta Township Stadium before marching through major roads in the state capital.

They carried out the rally peacefully, moving from the stadium to the Old Enugu Ogoja Expressway and back, chanting songs that called on government and security agencies to act fast.

Speaking during the protest, the state NLC chairperson, Ogugua Egwu, said many Nigerians have been forced to live as displaced persons, while parents now fear sending their children to school because of abductions.
He said workers and citizens are facing both physical danger and economic hardship, noting that wages no longer cover basic needs like food, shelter, and transport, while housing conditions for many workers remain poor.
Egwu warned that neglecting security and welfare could push youths into crime and political manipulation, urging authorities to take firm steps to protect lives and restore confidence among Nigerians.
