EFCC Says Malami Has Not Met Bail Conditions

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has clarified that former Attorney-General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami (SAN), has not fulfilled the conditions of his administrative bail.

The commission dismissed claims that his bail was revoked due to attendance at a political event in Kebbi State.

Malami was granted provisional bail on November 28 following a brief interrogation, pending the conclusion of investigations and possible court arraignment. The release was contingent on five specific conditions, none of which the former minister has yet met, according to EFCC Spokesperson Dele Oyewale.

Malami was scheduled to return for further questioning on December 1 but requested a postponement citing ill-health. The commission accommodated the request despite the lack of a medical report or credible proof, shifting his reporting date to December 4.

The EFCC reissued an invitation for December 8 for further interrogation, detaining Malami until he complies with all outstanding bail requirements. The agency stressed that temporary latitude on his health cannot hinder the ongoing investigations.

The commission also refuted allegations that it restricted Malami from granting media interviews or participating in political activities, describing such claims as unfounded. The EFCC reiterated that it does not consider political affiliation when handling suspects.

Malami has been urged to meet the bail conditions he agreed to on November 28 and to cooperate fully with the ongoing investigations to facilitate due process and possible court proceedings.
