First Lady Oluremi Tinubu has donated 10,000 sanitary pads to schoolgirls in Oyo State under the Renewed Hope Initiative, a programme aimed at helping young girls maintain dignity, confidence and proper menstrual hygiene.

The donation was presented in Ibadan on Monday through Tamunomini Makinde, wife of the Oyo State governor, who represented the First Lady. Mrs Tinubu said no girl should miss school because she cannot afford sanitary pads, noting that many girls in rural communities still rely on unsafe alternatives or stay home during their periods.

She said the initiative will distribute 370,000 pads to schoolgirls nationwide, with each state and the FCT receiving 10,000 pads. According to her, the Renewed Hope Initiative spent more than ₦2.5 billion to procure the customised pads from a local manufacturer.

Mrs Tinubu urged local government chairmen to take responsibility for ensuring the pads reach the girls directly, adding that the items must not be sold under any circumstances. She also appealed to traditional, religious and community leaders to monitor distribution and support the beneficiaries.
Addressing the students, she encouraged them to stay in school, work hard, support one another and reject stigma around menstruation. She said the project is designed to help them pursue their dreams with confidence.
The event was attended by senior government officials, including the Oyo State Head of Service, commissioners for health, women affairs, education and special duties.
