The Kogi State chapter of the African Democratic Congress has distanced itself from Senator Dino Melaye, warning him to stop presenting himself as a member of the party.
The party issued the warning on Friday in Lokoja, accusing him of meddling in its affairs and attacking its leadership.
The ADC leadership in the state said Melaye is unknown in his ward and has no link to the party. According to the party, he has never taken part in any ADC activity or met the basic requirements for membership, making his recent claims misleading and unacceptable.
Party officials said Melaye’s actions are viewed as an attempt to create drama online rather than contribute to the party’s growth. They insisted he cannot speak for the ADC or influence its leadership structure since he holds no position and has no membership record.
The party stressed that only members who have been recognised, active, and financially committed can represent the ADC. They pointed to Hon. Leke Abejide, who has been with the party since 2018 and won elections under its platform, as the rightful leader and stakeholder within the state and nationally.
The ADC urged the Independent National Electoral Commission, security agencies, and the public to disregard Melaye’s claims. They accused him of trying to destabilise the party and warned that such actions would not be allowed to stand.
The party added that ongoing court cases involving Abejide and others will eventually determine the rightful leadership. They argued that any attempt to suspend or expel Abejide was invalid since he preceded those pushing for action against him and remains in court challenging their moves.
