PDP Removes Wike, Fayose And Anyanwu From Party

The Peoples Democratic Party has expelled Nyesom Wike, Samuel Anyanwu and Ayo Fayose as its national convention in Ibadan took a decisive turn on Saturday.

The announcement came during the convention’s plenary session, where delegates voted to remove the trio along with eight other members.

The decision was reached after Olabode George moved the motion for their removal, with Bauchi PDP chairman Samaila Buga supporting it. Bala Mohammed, who chairs the PDP Governors’ Forum, conducted a voice vote that sealed the expulsion.

The action followed weeks of tension between the party leadership and the Wike-aligned faction. That faction had tried to stop the Ibadan convention through the courts, but the PDP obtained an Oyo High Court judgment that allowed the event to go ahead.

Leaders of the faction dismissed the convention as invalid. Mao Ohabunwa, who chairs the faction’s board of trustees, said the gathering in Ibadan held no legal weight and described it as a social outing rather than a lawful party event. He also argued that Anyanwu had already issued a notice postponing the convention.

Figures within the faction urged their supporters to avoid the convention entirely. Mohammed Abdulrahman, serving as acting national chairman of the group, told members that the party must wait for a proper convention that meets legal requirements. He said he would continue reaching out to members across the country to rebuild what he described as a united PDP.

Wike, reacting to the unfolding situation, praised his supporters for standing firm and said he would not abandon them. He insisted that his group would continue to pursue its case through lawful means and would resist any attempt to intimidate them.

Saturday’s expulsion deepens the rift within the PDP and marks one of the party’s most dramatic internal shake-ups in recent years.
