The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has reaffirmed that its national convention scheduled for Saturday in Oyo State will proceed as planned, despite internal disagreements and pending court actions.

Chairman of the party’s Board of Trustees (BoT), Senator Adolphus Wabara, made the declaration while receiving a report from a six-member panel set up to review the crisis surrounding the event. He said all major organs of the party — including the National Working Committee, the Governors’ Forum, and the BoT — had collectively agreed that the convention must go on.

According to him, the party’s leadership sees no legal basis to suspend preparations, stressing that the Supreme Court’s previous rulings should guide lower courts handling related matters. Wabara said that while some individuals within the party have voiced personal concerns, the collective position remains in favour of holding the convention.

He acknowledged that court rulings could still affect the party’s plans, noting that the PDP would comply with any final legal order if one arises before the weekend. However, he maintained that the party remains confident the process will go ahead as scheduled.
Party insiders say the Oyo convention is expected to address leadership and strategy questions ahead of the 2027 general elections. Many see it as a chance for the PDP to reposition itself after internal setbacks and regional disagreements that have recently tested its unity.
Wabara expressed optimism that the event will reaffirm the PDP’s democratic values and strengthen its structures nationwide, calling on members to work together to ensure a peaceful and successful convention.
