Former Ogun governorship candidate of the New Nigeria People’s Party, Ambassador Olufemi Ajadi Oguntoyinbo, has defected to the Peoples Democratic Party ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Ajadi, who was also a former presidential aspirant, announced his decision on Monday, November 10, 2025, during a press conference where he shared copies of his resignation letter addressed to NNPP leaders at all levels.

He described the move as a patriotic step aimed at promoting unity, youth empowerment, and stronger federalism, saying the PDP offers a broader platform for rebuilding public trust and national stability.

According to him, the decision came after deep reflection on Nigeria’s political direction and the need to align with a structure capable of driving meaningful transformation. He stressed that his departure from the NNPP was without conflict, noting that he still holds respect for the party and its ideals.
Ajadi, who once stepped down for Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso during the 2023 presidential race, said Nigeria needs leaders who can act selflessly and listen to the people. He pledged to work with PDP leaders to restore citizens’ confidence in democracy and deliver genuine governance.
Party leaders in the South-West welcomed his defection, describing it as a boost to the PDP’s strength and grassroots influence. Ajadi reaffirmed his commitment to peace-building, transparency, and inclusive leadership, saying his entry into the PDP would help reawaken hope among Nigerians ahead of 2027.
