The Nigerian Association of Resident Doctors (NARD) will begin an indefinite nationwide strike on November 1, 2025, after the expiration of its 30-day ultimatum to the Federal Government.

NARD President, Mohammad Suleiman, announced the decision in a statement on Sunday following a five-hour National Executive Council (NEC) meeting held on Saturday.

He said the strike would begin at 11:59 p.m. on October 31, citing the government’s failure to meet the association’s demands, which include payment of salary arrears, improved welfare, and better working conditions.

Suleiman noted that the NEC had directed total compliance across all centres, while local congresses would brief members on the strike resolutions.
The association also accused some government officials of exploiting resident doctors and vowed to resist such actions.
NARD’s demands include payment of arrears from the 25 and 35 percent CONMESS salary review, settlement of promotion arrears, payment of the 2024 accoutrement allowance, and reinstatement of dismissed doctors at the Federal Teaching Hospital, Lokoja.
Resident doctors make up a major part of Nigeria’s hospital workforce, meaning the strike is expected to disrupt medical services nationwide.
