Senate President Godswill Akpabio says the recent wave of defections from opposition parties to the All Progressives Congress is a show of patriotism and confidence in President Bola Tinubu’s leadership.

Akpabio stated this on Wednesday night after leading Senators Agom Jarigbe of Cross River North and Kaila Samaila of Bauchi North to a meeting with President Tinubu at the State House, Abuja.

Speaking with reporters after the meeting, Akpabio said the senators’ decision was inspired by the President’s economic reforms and his drive for national growth.

He described the lawmakers as “patriotic Nigerians” who chose to align with Tinubu’s vision of a stronger and more prosperous country.

“They joined the Senate on different political platforms, but as a result of the President’s policies that have turned things around economically and improved revenue generation, they found it necessary to join efforts to build Nigeria,” Akpabio said.

He added that the defections were not politically motivated but based on a desire to contribute to the nation’s progress.

Senator Jarigbe, speaking on his defection, said his decision to join the ruling party stemmed from his belief that Tinubu is performing well.

“I joined the APC because the President is really doing well, and I want to support him in delivering the dividends of democracy to our people,” he said.
