ADC Plans To End Godfatherism And Budget Padding In Nigeria

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) says it aims to transform Nigeria’s political system by ending godfatherism, budget padding, and patronage-driven governance, replacing them with transparency, innovation, and citizen participation.

In a statement titled “No Godfathers, No Budget Padding: How ADC Plans to Redesign Governance” shared on its official X handle, the party said Nigerian politics has been dominated for too long by personalities and patronage instead of principles and progress.

The ADC said its goal is to ensure government serves the people, not politicians. It promised that under its leadership, at least 70 percent of all budgeted projects would directly benefit local communities instead of being lost to inflated contracts or bureaucracy.

The party also pledged to make governance transparent and measurable through a digital system that allows citizens to trace every government expenditure in real time. It said this would be achieved using blockchain-backed technology to track how public funds move from ministries to local projects.

Describing transparency as the foundation of a new social contract, the ADC said it would empower young Nigerians to play active roles in governance by using their digital and entrepreneurial skills to monitor government activities.

According to the statement, governance under the ADC would be open and participatory through public dashboards and community-based data verification. Ministries and agencies would be run like performance-driven enterprises, and ministers would be appraised quarterly based on results, not political loyalty.

The party said its model would reward competence and accountability rather than connections or allegiance, making public service a contract of performance rather than political reward.

“The ADC is not coming to join the old game; we are coming to change the rules,” the statement said, adding that government should operate like a business where citizens are shareholders and the dividends are good roads, safety, quality education, healthcare, and jobs.

The party concluded that its plan represents a movement for responsible governance where innovation meets integrity and leadership is redefined as genuine service to the people.
