Kaduna State Governor Starts Makarfi Road Project Vows To Boost Rural Development

Governor Uba Sani of Kaduna State has launched the construction of the Durum Kuruntumawa Road in Makarfi Local Government Area, pledging to expand infrastructure and development beyond urban centres.

The project, flagged off on Monday, marks the first completed road initiative in the area in over a decade.

The governor said the road is a major step in correcting infrastructural neglect in rural communities, stressing that Kaduna’s 23 local government areas must benefit equally from government projects. He noted that residents outside the city also deserve access to basic infrastructure and opportunities that can improve their lives.

According to him, the road project is not just about construction but about fairness and progress. He described it as a lifeline that will ease movement for farmers, traders, students, and families while linking communities more effectively.

Makarfi, a key agricultural hub in the state, produces crops such as maize, sugarcane, tomatoes, and soybeans. The governor said the new road will strengthen the area’s economy by improving access to markets and encouraging growth in farming activities.

Since assuming office in May 2023, Sani disclosed that his administration has rolled out 85 road projects covering 785 kilometres, out of which 44 have been completed. He added that many others are nearing completion, while 15 more road contracts have already been awarded in the second phase of his infrastructure programme.

The governor urged residents to take ownership of public infrastructure to ensure durability, pointing out that community involvement will help secure the gains of development. He reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to rural development, assuring that no part of Kaduna State will be left behind.
