FCT Resident Doctors Starts Warning Strike Over Health System Collapse

Resident doctors in the Federal Capital Territory have commenced a seven-day warning strike, protesting what they describe as the deep-rooted failures in the territory’s health system.

The strike was announced on Monday through a communiqué signed by the association’s president, George Ebong, and other members of its executive council.

According to the doctors, hospitals in the FCT are overstretched and underfunded, with workers forced to operate under unbearable conditions. They said the system has been crippled by years of neglect and requires urgent reforms to prevent total collapse.

The association lamented that resident doctors are increasingly overworked, often compelled to run multiple departments at once due to manpower shortages. This, they warned, not only threatens the health of doctors but also puts patients’ lives at risk.

The group maintained that the warning strike is meant to push authorities to act swiftly on their demands for improved welfare, better infrastructure, and an overhaul of the health sector in the nation’s capital.
