Ladoja’s Coronation As 44th Olubadan Begins September 22

Preparations are underway for the coronation of Oba Rashidi Adewolu Ladoja as the 44th Olubadan of Ibadanland, with a week-long programme scheduled to begin on September 22.

The inaugural committee meeting, chaired by Chief Bayo Oyero, was held on Monday with key government officials, traditional representatives, and community leaders in attendance. Commissioner for Information, Prince Dotun Oyelade, announced the details in a statement.

According to the programme, the ceremonies will open on Monday, September 22, with an interdenominational service at the Olubadan Palace, Oke Aremo, organised by the Central Council for Ibadan Indigenes (CCII). This will be followed by a Cultural Day on Tuesday, jointly promoted by the CCII and the Ministry of Culture and Tourism.

A coronation lecture will be delivered by historian Toyin Falola, while a Mega Praise worship is planned for Thursday at the Civic Centre, Idi-Ape. The main coronation ceremony will take place on Friday, September 26, at Mapo Hall, Ibadan.

The planning meeting was attended by the Asipa Olubadan designate, Oba Hamidu Ajibade; Chief Nureni Adisa; Chief Adeola Oloko, media aide to the Olubadan; as well as commissioners, local government chairmen, and representatives from the state assembly.

The state government assured that the events would reflect the rich culture of Ibadanland and reaffirm the significance of the Olubadan stool.
