Former Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has strongly condemned the assault on a female National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) member, Jenifer Elobor, in Anambra State by operatives of a local vigilante group.
In a statement posted on his official X account on Tuesday, Obi described the attack as “inhumane, primitive, and a direct assault on our collective humanity.”
The former governor of Anambra said he was heartbroken that such brutality could occur in 2025, stressing that no society should tolerate the abuse or humiliation of its citizens, especially women and the vulnerable.
“That young girl could have been anyone’s daughter, sister, or even mine,” he said, urging security agencies to arrest and prosecute the perpetrators to serve as a deterrent.
Obi further called for stronger policies and community safeguards to protect Nigerians, noting that “our humanity must always come first. Without it, we are nothing but a people adrift in cruelty.”
