The Kaduna State government has denied claims by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) that security forces loyal to Governor Uba Sani abducted its House of Representatives candidate for the Chikun/Kajuru constituency, Princess Esther Ashivelli Dawaki, along with 25 supporters.

The controversy began on Saturday when the Kaduna PDP chapter alleged that a joint security outfit, Operation Fushin Kada, stormed City Den Hotel in Malali. According to the party, the operatives targeted the PDP Campaign Council Chairman, Hussein Ahmed-Kero, but when they could not find him, they allegedly took away Dawaki and several party members.

The PDP described the incident as an abuse of power aimed at silencing the opposition ahead of the by-election. It called on President Bola Tinubu, security chiefs, and civil society groups to intervene, warning that the development was a direct attack on democracy in the state.

Reacting on Sunday, the state government dismissed the accusations, insisting that Governor Uba Sani had no involvement in the matter. It rejected the claim that security agencies acted under his directive, urging the public to disregard the allegations.
The by-elections, conducted on Saturday by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), took place in 16 federal and state constituencies across 12 states, including Kaduna, to fill vacant legislative seats.
The Kaduna PDP, however, maintained that the detention of its candidate and supporters undermined free and fair participation, accusing the ruling party of using intimidation to influence the outcome of the polls.
