Yoruba Leaders Urge FG To Delist Sunday Igboho From Wanted List

The Yoruba Self-Determination Movement has called on the Federal Government to remove Yoruba nation activist Sunday Adeyemo, popularly known as Sunday Igboho, from its wanted list, describing his continued restriction as unjust and politically motivated.

Speaking at a press conference in Ibadan on Friday, the group’s Deputy Leader, Opeoluwa Akinola, also demanded the unfreezing of Igboho’s bank accounts, the release of his assets, and an end to his designation as a wanted person.

Akinola recounted that security operatives from the Department of State Services had invaded Igboho’s home, killed some of his associates, detained several others, and forced him into exile where he was later imprisoned abroad. He noted that despite these actions, no concrete criminal charges have been brought against the activist.

He argued that Igboho’s campaigns against killings, kidnappings, and other attacks on Yoruba communities were lawful, adding that it was “a cruel irony” that he could not move freely in his homeland while “foreign elements” accused of violence roam freely in Nigeria.

The group also dismissed the narrative that “Lagos is No Man’s Land,” describing it as provocative and an affront to Yoruba heritage. Akinola said Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s recent re-election was celebrated as an affirmation of Lagos’ Yoruba identity.
