The South-South state chairmen of the Allied Peoples Movement (APM) have passed a vote of no confidence in the party’s presidential candidate, Seyi Makinde, over his handling of preparations for the 2027 general elections.
The six chairmen announced their position in a joint statement on Wednesday, accusing Makinde of sidelining established party structures and appointing campaign coordinators who are allegedly not members of the APM.
They expressed concern over what they described as inadequate recognition, consultation and engagement with the party’s existing leadership in organising the presidential campaign.
The statement was signed by Dagodog Whyte of Rivers State, Peace Osarama of Bayelsa State, Utuku Abangaye Edet of Akwa Ibom State, Ugoigwe Onyeka Ogechukwu of Edo State, Prince Henry Ese of Delta State and Ntami Nkanu Esage of Cross River State.
The chairmen accused Makinde of dishonesty, mishandling funds and failing to provide effective leadership for the party’s presidential campaign.
They questioned his ability to lead the APM into the 2027 elections, claiming he lacked the substance, political will and focus required of a presidential candidate.
According to the chairmen, Makinde had failed to work with the party’s established structures across the country, choosing instead to appoint campaign coordinators from outside the organisation.
They further alleged that the governor was using the party to advance his personal presidential ambition rather than respecting its internal structures and leadership arrangements.
The development signals growing internal disagreements within the APM as the party prepares for the 2027 general elections.
