Lagos State University Vice-Chancellor Prof Ibiyemi Olatunji-Bello has appealed to striking workers to end their industrial action and return to work on Monday, August 11.

In a message titled It’s Time to Move Forward, posted on the university’s official X page on Saturday, she described the past two weeks of silence on campus as “deafening” and said the absence of academic and administrative activity had weighed heavily on her heart.

Acknowledging the workers’ grievances, the VC said staff welfare had been central to her administration since she assumed office in September 2021. She listed achievements such as a 100% end-of-year bonus, prompt promotions, priority admission and job opportunities for staff families, timely salary payments, full Earned Academic Allowance payments, and various welfare packages including free birthday health screenings.

She noted that the state government had made offers to address staff demands, though they might not meet all expectations. She urged workers to accept them as part of the realities of negotiation, warning that prolonging the strike would damage the university’s reputation, disrupt students’ education, and stall progress.
“We are not on opposite sides. We are partners, bound by the same vision of a LASU that values its staff and serves its students with pride,” she said, calling for unity, patience, and trust to move the institution forward.
