Former Borno State Governor and Ex-PDP National Chairman, Ali Modu Sheriff, says Peter Obi is set to return to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and will likely contest the 2027 presidential election under its banner.

Sheriff made the claim during an interview on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Monday. He said Obi, who left the PDP just days before its 2022 presidential primary, is “only biding time” before making his way back.

“The information available to me is that at any moment from now, Peter Obi will go back to PDP and run as a presidential candidate under PDP,” Sheriff stated.

Obi, a former Anambra State governor, had resigned from the PDP on May 25, 2022, citing internal issues that he said undermined constructive politics. He joined the Labour Party two days later and became its presidential candidate for the 2023 election, where he finished third.
Sheriff dismissed the relevance of smaller parties like the ADC, claiming they lack political longevity. “Give the party three months and it will die down,” he said.
His remarks come days after PDP founding member, Jerry Gana, revealed that moves were underway to bring Obi back into the party ahead of 2027.
