Tinubu Loyalists In North West kick Off 2027 Re-Election Push

Supporters of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu from the North West have dismissed the emerging opposition coalition as weak and unconvincing, declaring their full commitment to securing a second term for the president in the 2027 general elections.

The group loyal to former governors Bello Matawalle and Abdulazeez Yari launched their campaign movement over the weekend in Kaduna, bringing together zonal and state leaders under the Shehi and Matawalle Project for Tinubu 2027.

The event was held in Kaduna State and marked the official start of political activities by the group, which is focused on strengthening President Tinubu’s support base across the North West. The inauguration of new executives brought together political allies and grassroots mobilisers from different parts of the region, all pledging to work toward Tinubu’s re-election.

The Shehi and Matawalle Project is led by key political figures closely linked to former governors Matawalle of Zamfara and Yari, who are said to still command strong influence in the North West. According to the organisers, the group’s purpose is to counter what they describe as a weak and directionless opposition front, which includes former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, Labour Party’s Peter Obi, and former Kaduna State governor Nasir El-Rufai.

The organisers believe that Nigerians have begun to feel the early impact of Tinubu’s administration and would prefer continuity over another experiment with new political coalitions. They pointed to several reforms already introduced by the current government, such as the removal of fuel subsidy, the unification of foreign exchange rates, infrastructure upgrades, and rural electrification projects, which they say are gradually addressing long-standing problems in the economy.

The campaign leaders urged their new executives to take the message of Tinubu’s achievements to every community and voting bloc. They were tasked with creating awareness, building loyalty, and driving voter participation as the 2027 election season approaches. The group aims to build on Tinubu’s current political momentum and deepen support in rural areas where Matawalle and Yari still hold sway.

Organisers also said that the Shehi and Matawalle Project is more than a campaign platform. They described it as a structured political movement aimed at ensuring continuity in leadership and pushing back against what they see as efforts by political rivals to confuse or divide voters.

The group expressed confidence in the backing of Matawalle and Yari, two former governors known for their network of loyal supporters. They believe their influence will be key to swaying votes in Zamfara and other North West states.

With this campaign rollout, the group is setting the stage for what promises to be a heated contest in 2027. They say they are prepared for any political challenge and are already putting structures in place to secure victory at the polls.
