The PDP claimed that it had received credible information suggesting that the governor was planning to sell the entire market to a Lagos based company (name withheld) that will now rent It out to poor market women at exorbitant rates.

In a statement on Monday, by the PDP Caretaker Committee Secretary, Prince Diran Odeyemi, the party called on notable leaders in the State, opinion moulders, students including traditional rulers to prevail on the governor not to sell the market and allow those whose shops were demolished to pave way for the new market to own shops in the market.

It should be recalled that the PDP government of Governor Ayodele Fayose constructed the market which was at a level of 80 percent completion as at October 2018.

Odeyemi also declared that the PDP administration of Gov Fayose left a sum of N327 million for the payment of the contractor upon completion of the project while about 75 per cent of the shops were already allocated to people whose shops were demolished to pave way for the modern construction.

However, upon assumption of office, Governor Fayemi cancelled the allocation of the market shops and refunded the money paid by the traders which the party considered to be a wicked act against common traders in Ado Ekiti.

Giving more insight to the plot to acquire the market for Gov Fayemi, Odeyemi disclosed that three companies were lined up for consideration of the outright sale of the market, but the government has finalised arrangements to use a crony to buy the market on behalf of the governor.

He likened the governor’s alleged plot to “reaping where he did not show” asking what happened to the N2.75 billion earmarked for the construction of the market in the N20 billion bond obtained by Fayemi’s government in 2012.

Odeyemi recalled that in 2014, Governor Fayemi muted the idea of constructing Fajuyi bridge, but pictures of the bridge were only seen in the 2014 Calendar of the State.

Also, despite that N2.75 billion was earmarked for the construction of Oja Oba market in 2012, nothing was done, apart from billboards.

“Today, apart from going on Social Media to advertise the market as one of his achievements, Governor Fayemi is also planning to sell the market to himself through a crony.

“Let it however be said to him that Ekiti people, especially those traders who lost their shops for the new market to be built, will resist this evil plot,” Odeyemi said.
