Covid-19: Disquiet over Ekiti govt payment of N500 per two weeks to security task force

Men of the Security Task Force, enforcing the COVID-19 lockdown in Ekiti State are grumbling silently over what they believed as ill-treatment by the State Government.

The Security Task Force is made up of Voluntary Uniform Organizations like Vigilante Group, Man O War, Boys Scout, Ekiti Peace Corps, State Traffic Management Agency, Oodua People’s Congress and Agbekoya.

Sources among the task force told WazobiaReporters that instead of N5,000 allowance per two weeks per person allegedly being released by the State Government, the men are being paid a meagre sum of N500.

The source said they have only received the N500 per person twice since the beginning of the COVID-19 lock down.

Another source disclosed to our reporter that few weeks ago, a sum of N7.4m was allegedly released to Governor Kayode Fayemi’s Special Adviser on Security Matters and Coordinator of the Rapid Response Squad, Brig-General Ebenezer Ogundana (rtd).

The source said it was from the N7.4m that each of the men received N500 as allowance for the first two weeks, while another undisclosed sum of money was released this week, out of which another N500 was paid.

“In all, we that we have been on the road enforcing the lock down have received N1,000 each and that’s why it is difficult to prevent our men from collecting bribe from people to allow them freedom to move around.

“It was also because of the paltry sum of N500 that is being paid that has made men of Rapid Response Squad (comprising police and Civil Defence) to stop taking part in the enforcement,” the source said.
