The winner of the Ikot Ekpene senatorial district election, Chris Ekpenyong, says people of the district rejected Godswill Akpabio as the senator representing them because he has not represented them well for the past three and half years.

Chris Ekpenyong who defeated Senator Godswill Akpabio in the Ikot Ekpene senatorial district election attributed his victory to the will of the people of the senatorial district.

The PDP senator-elect in an interview in Vanguard published on Tuesday, March 5, accused Senator Godswill Akpabio of abandoning his senatorial district, noting that the district was lacking in basic amenities.

“We have not seen any bill that he has actually produced that will better lots of the people, or change their circumstances,” the senator elect said.
“When you heard about Nigeria as being the number one nation in the world with the poorest people, and you look at the place he represents, the interior of Ukanafun, Etim Ekpo, Oruk Anam, Abak and even interior of Essien Udim where he is from, there are no roads. If you go to interior of Ikono there is no road. If you go to Ini, it is sorrowful.”

Ekpenyong who boasted that Akpabio’s defeat was permanent, said the senator was free to challenge his defeat in the at the election tribunal.
…”He never knew that people were watching him. So it is a revolution. I defeated him with a total difference of 35,000 and 50,000 votes. You could see it is a classical desire of the people to make a change. I defeated him and he should go home and sleep,” he said.
Meanwhile, President Muhammadu Buhari, on Monday, March 4, said that the votes of the Akwa Ibom people allegedly stolen during the Presidential and National Assembly elections of February 23, would be reclaimed.
Buhari said this during a town hall meeting held in Uyo to thank the people of the state for casting their votes for the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the elections.
President Buhari, who was represented by the Vice-President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo encouraged the people to defend their votes during the coming Governorship and House of Assembly Elections. He decried the circumstances, under which Sen. Godswill Akpabio lost his re-election into the senate in spite of his popularity across the state.
