The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has chided Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai over his recent call for northern state governors’ to imitate him in sacking teachers in their states.
NLC President Ayuba Wabba in a statement yesterday described the statement as ‘reckless’, saying the governor has mistaken notoriety for popularity.
“Unfortunately, the Governor of Kaduna State has decided not only to continue in his favourite past time of inflicting pains and sorrows wherever he goes, he is also bent on marketing such profound proclivity for mischief to his fellow governors,” Wabba said.
The NLC president urged other northern governors, especially those in the same political party as El-Rufai not to be deceived into copying his ‘failed’ policies.
He restated that workers’ retrenchment violates fundamental rights and contravenes Nigeria’s labour laws, international conventions and best industrial relations practice.
