The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has finally succumbed to pressure to postpone the Edo State governorship election and the postponement will be announced officially tomorrow morning.

The Department of State Services (DSS) and the Nigeria police had asked INEC) to postpone Saturday’s governorship election in Edo state, citing security threat.

Source in INEC told WazobiaReporters that an emergency meeting will be held tomorrow morning after which the postponement will be announced.

INEC had already mobilised its commissioners to Edo State and non-sensitive materials already distributed to the local governments. However, sending defeat, the APC led federal government decided to hide under security to shift the election.
Postponement of the election was said to have been planned since July. It was aimed at weakening the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP ) financially.
INEC Chairman, Prof Mahmood Yakubu who is said to be against the postponement had to succumb because of threat to withdraw security support.
