Adeleke, Davido Face Backlash Over Support For Tinubu, APC

The backlash followed Adeleke’s pledge to deliver Osun State for Tinubu in the next presidential election. The governor has also reportedly been included in the APC Presidential Campaign Council and appointed coordinator of the City Boy Movement in Osun State.

The development has prompted questions from Nigerians who recalled Adeleke’s earlier opposition to the APC’s bid to govern Osun State.

Davido has also come under scrutiny as some of his old social media posts criticising the APC resurfaced. In one widely circulated post, the singer reportedly described anyone supporting the party in Osun as an enemy of progress.

Several users on X accused the Adeleke family of political inconsistency, arguing that supporting the APC at the national level contradicted their previous opposition to the party in Osun.

One user said Adeleke’s supporters had stood by him during his political battles against the APC, claiming that some people lost their lives in the struggle. The user described the governor’s latest political alignment as a betrayal of those supporters’ sacrifices.

Another commentator argued that the family’s position amounted to double standards, questioning how they could oppose the APC in Osun while backing the party’s continued control of the federal government.

Others directed their criticism at Davido, questioning his silence over his uncle’s decision and urging him to address the issue publicly. Some also accused the singer of abandoning his earlier political stance.

However, some reactions acknowledged the strategic nature of political alliances, arguing that former opponents could work together when their interests aligned.

The controversy has continued to generate debate online over political loyalty, celebrity influence and the shifting alliances ahead of the 2027 general elections.
