Gunmen have abducted three staff members of the Cocoa Research Institute of Nigeria (CRIN) in Ibadan, Oyo State, while they were inspecting crops on a farm within the institute’s premises.
The incident was confirmed by the Oyo State Police Command, which said the victims were seized while carrying out their duties at the research facility.
The command’s Public Relations Officer, Olayinka Ayanlade, said investigations had commenced following the abduction.
According to the police, efforts were immediately launched to secure the safe release of the victims and arrest those responsible for the incident.
Ayanlade appealed to members of the public with useful information that could assist the investigation and rescue operation to share it with the police.
The command said it was working to ensure the safe return of the abducted workers and the apprehension of the perpetrators.
