Political economist Prof. Pat Utomi has said he supports Peter Obi’s presidential ambition ahead of the 2027 general election but would withdraw his backing if the former Anambra State governor accepts a vice-presidential position.

Utomi made the statement in a post on his official X account on Thursday, where he explained his position on Obi’s political future and the type of leadership he believes Nigeria needs.

The political economist said his support for Obi is specifically tied to a presidential bid and does not extend to a vice-presidential arrangement with another candidate.
Utomi said his position was based on his preferred direction for Nigeria rather than personal considerations involving individual politicians.

He also called for a review of the age of politicians seeking executive positions in Nigeria. According to him, presidential and governorship candidates should be no older than 70 years.
