His death was disclosed by his brother, Nkang William, who expressed shock over the sudden loss of the commissioner.

The family member said William had recently spent time with his family before his death and described the development as difficult for them to accept.

Despite the loss, Nkang said the family would continue to remember the commissioner for the impact he made on people around him, his willingness to share knowledge and the relationships he built during his lifetime.

Eka William becomes the second commissioner to die under the administration of Governor Bassey Otu.

The state’s Commissioner for Tourism, Abubakar Ewa, also died in 2025.

As of the time of the report, the Cross River State Government had not issued an official statement on William’s death.
