Lagos Govt Sets New Guidelines as Schools Reopen Monday

The Lagos State Government has announced Monday, September 14, 2026, as the resumption date for public and private schools across the state for the 2026/2027 academic session.

The Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Jamiu Alli-Balogun, announced the date in a statement on Friday while welcoming pupils, students, teachers, parents and other members of the school community back from the holiday.

Alli-Balogun congratulated parents, learners and school personnel for their commitment and urged them to begin the new academic session with renewed energy and a strong focus on achieving good academic results.

He said the safety, health and general welfare of pupils, students and school workers should remain a shared responsibility as schools resume across the state.

The commissioner urged schools to maintain clean and healthy learning environments, particularly classrooms, toilets, laboratories and playgrounds.

He advised students to wash their hands regularly with soap and clean water, especially before meals and after using the toilet, as part of measures to prevent the spread of infections.

Students were also directed to avoid littering and dispose of waste in designated bins. They were advised against sharing personal items such as drinking cups, cutlery and towels because of the risk of transmitting infections.

The government further advised learners to maintain proper respiratory hygiene by covering their mouths and noses when coughing or sneezing.

Schools were also urged to avoid unnecessary overcrowding and ensure that classrooms have adequate ventilation. Students and staff were encouraged to report damaged facilities, unsafe conditions and health concerns to school authorities without delay.

Alli-Balogun said teachers, school administrators and non-teaching personnel were expected to set a good example by maintaining proper personal hygiene and keeping school surroundings clean.

The Permanent Secretary of the ministry, Abisola Dokunmu-Adegbite, also welcomed pupils, students and school workers back to school and wished them a productive and successful academic session.
