Katsina State Governor Dikko Radda has approved N500 million as the state government’s counterpart funding for the procurement of nutrition commodities to support efforts against acute malnutrition in 2026.

The funding was approved by the Katsina State Executive Council during its 15th regular meeting held on Wednesday at the General Muhammadu Buhari House in Katsina.

Commissioner for Health, Musa Adamu, said the intervention would ensure continued availability of essential nutrition commodities for children affected by acute malnutrition and strengthen the state’s response to the condition.
The Executive Council also approved the modernisation of selected markets across the three senatorial districts of the state.
The markets listed for the intervention include those in Dandume, Daura, Mashi and Jibia. The Special Adviser on Market Development, Mustapha Batsari, said the programme was designed to improve commercial facilities and support economic activities across the state.
Commissioner for Information and Culture, Dr Salisu Zango, disclosed that the council also approved the purchase of 95,000 bags of assorted grains for distribution to vulnerable and less privileged residents.
He said the grain distribution was part of measures being implemented by the administration to reduce the impact of economic hardship on households and provide assistance to people facing difficult living conditions.
The council further approved the provision of non-food items and cash assistance to vulnerable groups, including orphans, widows, persons with special needs and other disadvantaged residents.

The Executive Secretary of the Katsina Development Management Board, Mustapha Shehu, said the programme would give talented young people opportunities to develop skills in leadership, diplomacy and public service.
He added that the initiative would prepare participants to take part in activities that could contribute to the development of the state.
The council also approved a central coordination and evidence-clearing system for the HOPE-GOV, HOPE-PHC and HOPE-EDU programmes.
Shehu said the mechanism would help review programme requirements, coordinate technical teams across sectors and improve efforts to meet and verify the required Disbursement Linked Indicators.
He said the measure was expected to improve the implementation of the World Bank-supported programmes and help the state maximise the benefits of the HOPE-PHC and HOPE-EDU initiatives.
The Executive Council further approved a statewide compliance framework for the use of performance-based financing and reward funds, with the aim of improving accountability and coordination in the implementation of development programmes across Katsina State.
